The first International Yoga Day was observed by the Delhi Gorkha Mothers Welfare Society, a women’s organization run in the country’s capital Delhi. The program, organized at a park near Priya Cinema in the Vasant Vihar area of South Delhi, was attended by senior social worker from Delhi, Mr. Uttam Kumar Chhetri. The program, which started at 7 am, was attended by hundreds of Gorkhas led by yoga guru Sahitya Sunar, who performed various yoga asanas and wished each other good health and longevity.
It is said that the significant support and role of Jia Foundation, Ravi Foundation and prominent social workers from Delhi, Mr. Raju Shankar, Mr. Bikash Thapa, Mr. Gopal Tamang, Mr. Bharat Singh, Mrs. Meera Dhungana, Mrs. Mamta Rai, etc., made it very easy for the Gorkha Mothers Welfare Society to observe International Yoga Day.
Chief Guest Mr. Uttam Kumar Chhetri, in his speech, said that the work that Gorkha Mothers Welfare Society has been doing for the betterment of the community is important. From this time, it has started teaching healthy living skills. He requested that this be conducted not only on International Yoga Day but also be conducted all the time. It was hoped that the program conducted by the President of the Society, Nomi Khati, would bring all the Gorkha caste organizations together in the future and make many social programs successful. Yoga Guru, Satish Sunar, taught various yoga asanas in a very simple and easy way. For her contribution, the society presented a token of love from the hands of the chief guest.
