The Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a woman living in Jaipur for her alleged links with a Pakistan-linked spy network and a sleeper cell of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. The investigating agencies have claimed that the woman has links with people in Pakistan and has received several suspicious information from her mobile phone and social media accounts. Following this intelligence-based operation, a detailed investigation into the case is underway.
According to the police, the arrested woman has been identified as Babita Dhakad, although she was also known as ‘Khadija’. Originally a resident of Gangapur, Babita was living in Jaipur when she was arrested. The police took her into custody on Sunday. The investigating agencies have accused her of providing information related to some important people to Jaish-e-Mohammed and its affiliated networks.
On Monday, authorities said that an initial search of the woman’s mobile phone found two SIM cards and a Facebook account. According to authorities, the Facebook account contained links to foreign profiles and many objectionable materials. In addition, links to some banned organizations were also found.
The investigation also found that the woman’s Facebook friends list included several accounts sharing symbols, flags and pictures of armed men associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed and other terrorist organizations. Authorities claim that Babita’s WhatsApp account also contained evidence of conversations with several Pakistani numbers and foreign nationals. Investigators believe that the woman had converted to Islam. A religious leader in Pakistan allegedly helped her in the conversion process over the phone. According to sources, the same religious leader told the woman that a man named Abu-Ubaidah wanted to marry her. She was then instructed to perform some religious rituals.
Investigative agencies have also received information that a plan was being made to take the woman to Pakistan. Officials believe that an organised network was behind the entire process, and its role is being investigated.
The investigation has also revealed that the woman is allegedly involved in the November 29, 2016 terrorist attack on an Indian Army camp near the Balini area of Jammu, in which six Indian Army soldiers were martyred. According to the investigating agencies, Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Qari Zarar has been accused of plotting the attack. Officials said that the terrorist organization intended to use the woman to carry out various activities and schemes in India. However, investigations are underway to confirm these allegations, and the agencies are examining all aspects.
ATS Superintendent of Police Manish Tripathi said that a thorough investigation into the case is underway. Investigating agencies are collecting evidence regarding the woman’s contacts, digital activities, foreign connections and the role of a possible network.
